Objection: The purpose of this study was to provide basic data on the interventions and treatment for children and adolescents with Intellectual Disabilities (ID) through a systematic literature review.
Methods: PubMed, Medline, RISS, and KISS were used to search for papers published between 2008 and 2019. The key words were [ID OR mental retardation] AND [Activity of Daily Living (ADL)] OR participation OR relationship OR social] AND intervention. A total of 9 papers were used in this analysis.
Results: Various kinds of interventions showed a significant effect on improving the ADL or participation. Skills such as communication, occupational performance, meal activity, visual perception, social behavior, and time-management showed significant effects in the field of ADL. The skills of communication, selection, and school-related participation were improved in the area of participation.
Conclusion: This study presented significant interventions related with ADL and the participation of children and adolescents with ID. However, further studies when considering the research quality and diversity will be necessary to target children and adolescents with ID.
